What Are AP Classes Why Should You Take Them
What Are AP Classes Why Should You Take Them SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If youââ¬â¢ve started high school recently, or if you're due to start soon, you might be wondering, "What are AP classes?" You might have heard that they are extra-advanced or that you can get college credit from them. But how does it work? If youââ¬â¢ve been wondering what AP tests are and how they can help you, read on for our guide to AP courses and learn how they can get you ahead. What Is Advanced Placement? Advanced Placement is a program run by the College Board (the makers of the SAT) that allows you to take courses at your high school, which can earn you college credit and/or qualify you for more advanced classes when you begin college. So what are AP courses? They are designed to give you the experience of an intro-level college class while youââ¬â¢re still in high school. Plus, you can get college credit for the class if you pass the AP exam. AP classes were created in the mid-1950s as a response to the widening gap between secondary school (high school) and college. A pilot program in 1952 had 11 subjects, butAP didnââ¬â¢t officially launch until the 1956 school year, when the College Board took over the program and named it the College Board Advanced Placement Program. The program expanded rapidly over the years. These days, about 2.7 million students take AP exams every year in 38 subjects.Itââ¬â¢s also much more common for students to take multiple AP classes over the course of their high school careers. Well, the content of an intro-level college class ... you won't sit in a lecture hall like this until college! But what exactly are AP exams? An AP exam isbasically a test of all you learn in an AP class. You earn college credit if you pass the examgiven at the end of the year in May. (AP tests are scored between 1 and 5, with anything above 3 considered passing.) While it's possible to skip the AP class and study for an AP exam independently, it's strongly recommended that you take the class.AP classes are specifically designed to help students prepare for the AP exams. Taking an AP course and passing the test is a sign that you're capable of handling college-level work, which will strengthen your college applications immensely. Why Take AP Classes? 3 Key Benefits Now that you know what AP classes are, why should you consider taking them? Below, we give you three potential benefits of taking AP classes. #1: They Can Boost Your College Applications Taking an AP class (or several!) is a great way to challenge yourself academically and show colleges that you're serious about your education. An AP class on your transcript signals stronger academic training, especially with high passing scores of 4 and 5 on the test. In particular, getting a 5 on an AP test shows that you are more advanced in a subject than 80-90% of advanced students- which looks very impressive to colleges! Since AP courses are challenging and require you to study for a comprehensive exam, they teach you skills that will help you in college classes. According to the College Board, students who take AP exams get higher grades in college than those with similar grades who donââ¬â¢t take AP exams. You basically get a head start in college. Many colleges say thatthey look to see if you took the hardest courses available to you at your school.Taking AP classes is often the best way to show that you are challenging yourself academically at your high school. For example, Yale says on their admissions website, "Weonly expect you to take advantage of [AP] courses if your high school provides them.â⬠In other words, if your school has AP courses and you donââ¬â¢t take them, it might look as though you aren't challenging yourself. To take a West Coast example, USC is more straightforward: ââ¬Å"Students should pursue Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes whenever possible and if offered by high school.â⬠Getting a high passing score of 4 or 5 further demonstrates your academic potential to colleges.(By the way, if you're curious about a college's suggested high school course load, look up its admissions website by searching "[School Name] admissions requirements.") #2: They Can Show Your Passion Taking AP exams is also a way to demonstrate real academic interest in a certain subject. For example,if youââ¬â¢re an aspiring engineer, taking the AP Calculus and AP Physics courses and passing the exams will prove to college admissions committees that you're serious about engineering and have the skills necessary to pursue it. On the other hand, if you're interested in political science or pre-law tracks, taking AP US History, AP US Government, AP Statistics, and/or AP Economics would show strong preparation for those subjects. Or ifyouââ¬â¢re hoping to be pre-med,taking AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and/or AP Calculus would indicate that you have the skills and background needed to handle tough pre-med classes as a college student. #3: They Can Get You College Credit Some colleges give credit for AP classes. This makes it possible to graduate from college in a far shorter amount of time, ultimately saving you money! For example,Harvard lets you apply for Advanced Standing if you've completed the equivalent of a year of college courses with AP exams. The University of Michigan, too, grants new students course credit and higher class placements for AP exams. However, some colleges use scores to help place students in higher-level classes but don't allow these credits to fulfill graduation requirements, so you can't graduate any earlier. Similarly, other schools might let you earn college credit but are limiting about which AP exams they accept. As an example, Stanford University accepts AP credit from many science, language, and math AP courses, but not any from history or English courses. Washington University in St. Louis will grant some credit for AP tests but doesn't allow you to use these credits to meet general education requirements: "A maximum of 15 units of prematriculation credit may be counted toward any undergraduate degree. These units will count toward graduation, but will not meet general education requirements." Despite all this, getting the boost into more advanced classes can help you work through a major more quickly and let you take more advanced and more interesting courses as a freshman. Even if you don't earn credit for your AP scores, AP classes can still get you ahead. If youââ¬â¢re curious about a collegeââ¬â¢s AP policy, the College Board has a database you can use to look up any school's policy. The fewer years college takes, the less you have to spend! How to Sign Up for AP Classes and Tests You can sign up for an AP course through your normal high school registration process. Keep in mind that some schools have prerequisite courses you have to take before you can sign up for an AP class. Track down your guidance counselor if you have any questions about this! You'll also sign up for AP tests through your school, which will havea designated AP coordinator (often a guidance counselor) to help with the process. If youââ¬â¢re home-schooled or want to take an AP test for a class your school doesnââ¬â¢t offer, contact your local schoolââ¬â¢s AP coordinator. AP tests cost $94 each. Some schools offer subsidies, and the College Board has financial aidin the form of a $32 fee reduction. Remember that if you pass the AP exam, you can exchange your score for college credit once you get to college. So even though that $94 fee is steep, itââ¬â¢s a bargain compared with the cost of taking that same class for a semester in college! Whatââ¬â¢s Next? Business Law - Essay Example e scenario Abigail has no actual financial or other damages as a result of the contract, she might have been awarded damages if she had sued and won against the seller. Since the seller had failed to deliver the new car to Abigail as agreed in the contract, he would have been liable for material breach which would have permitted Abigail to either compel him to performance or collect damages as a result (Stone 25). Abigail would have been awarded special damages; special damages are awarded to a claimant as a result of a breach for the quantifiable monetary losses that he or she may suffered as a result of the breach. This would have included compensation for direct loss or consequential losses if she would have proved that failure by the seller to deliver the car had caused her economic loss. Basically, the damages would have either sought to compensate her for direct loss or to place her in the position she would have been if the contract had not been breached (Stone

Job Evaluation. Whole foods Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Job Evaluation. Whole foods - Case Study Example Evaluation is not an easy task; instead it involves various sub tasks which compose the entire job of operating on a particular principle. Job evaluation is generally carried out on the basis of certain steps and predefined principles. These steps and procedures help the officials to carry out the evaluation procedure in an effective manner. The type of procedures used in job evaluation purely depends on the type of industry and the nature of work. The work load and the operations pertain to a particular industry and this differs from one industry to another. The type of work has gone through a change when compared to the past and the development in each industry has contributed to the expansion at a larger pace. Due to this factor, it becomes difficult for an organization to maintain the same old procedures in evaluating the jobs and analyzing the operations. Though job evaluation is an important concept in an organization, the way in which it is implemented plays a major role. The process of implementation involves several steps that define the operations to be executed while evaluating the particular work. The efficiency of work purely depends on the environment and the situation in which the particular work is carried out. ... Competition in this sort of environment is certainly difficult and the employees have to prove their mettle in order to improve and develop the organization. Job Evaluation at Whole Foods Each industry has a specific set of regulations based on which they perform their operations. These regulations are altered to suit the needs of the customers. Since change is inevitable, these organizations must incorporate new ideologies and policies to have an edge over the other similar organizations. This can be achieved only if they follow a set of predefined procedures to perform job evaluation. When compared to the other industries, food industry is the one that is more prone to problems. Since people have a direct contact with the workers of the food industry, it is important for them to evaluate and analyze their job at regular intervals. (Milkovich & Newman, 2008). This will ensure that the customers are satisfied and it will also enable the officials to know about their expectations. The Whole Foods market is one among the popular food markets and it is one of the most sought after markets in the city. Whole Foods has already completed the process of job analysis and the job descriptions have also been presented. As a consultant I would suggest them to prepare a job structure which is purely based on the description of job. Job evaluation is generally done based on the job description. The job structure can be designed by inspecting the type of work and the operations involved in the particular job. The job structure includes the job titles and the job description. Job evaluation is done by defining and checking the operations involved in each and every job. Job Structure As given in the case study, each job is analyzed and
The US Supreme Court Docketed Case No 06-1006 Essay
The US Supreme Court Docketed Case No 06-1006 - Essay Example The case number under the consideration in the Texas Court (Harris County) was PD-0436-05. It is necessary to trace the progress and the real causes of the case, to understand the reason of it being submitted to the Supreme Court and to analyze if there were any mistakes performed legally by the preceding courts. The case started in 2002, when the grand jury of Harris County returned an indictment, and charging the defendant with the felony, which had been committed under the paragraphs 31.03(a) and 31.09 of the Texas Penalty Code. In 2003, August, the defendant (already being an appellant, as it will go further) appeared in trial for the plea of being non-guilty, and having presented eight witnesses. The State was able to establish, that through the period of 1997-2000, the appellant was working as a bookkeeper in a private residential community for mentally disordered children, called Hope Village. Among the duties which the appellant had at work was the responsibility for the fina nces together with the payroll. During the notified period, and using the opportunities which the appellant had due to her obligations, she had substantially raised her own salary without superior notification and permission, the numerous additional paychecks were found besides those which she was regularly receiving; she was also able to reimburse the expenditures which had never been made. The deductions for the health insurance and federal taxes were also improper. The total sum of damage for the Hope Village was about $50,000. The appellant was resisting to admitting her guilt, but failed to explain the bigger portion of evidence against her. The jury found the appellant guilty and assessed her punishment in nine years imprisonment and $2,500 fine. The appellant was sure that the Fourteenth Amendment had been violated through sustaining, which was conducted by the district criminal court in relation to the State's objection of the innocence presumption. The Court of Appeals was in agreement with the appellant in terms of presumption of innocence used, but it found this error to be harmless beyond a reasonable doubt. It is stated, that 'any harm from the trial's error with regard to the presumption of innocence would have been lessened, if not altogether erased, both by the jury charge and by the presumption that the jury followed the instructions in the jury charge. Taking into account both the evidence presented and the fact that the jury had already been charged as to the presumption of innocence, we can say beyond a reasonable doubt that the error committed by the trial court did not contribute to the appellant's conviction.' The appellant, on the other hand viewed the errors of the court of appeals in the following ways: 1. The error which the district court committed should not have been considered as harmless error, but was better related to the so-called 'structural defect'; 2. The fact that the error was admitted to be harmless beyond reasonable limits was also erroneous for the fact that it had caused the jury not to suppose the appellant to be innocent anymore; 3. The court of appeals also failed to use the so-called 'totality of circumstances'. The discussion of the utilized notions and the similar cases of use Totality of circums

The statistical data of the results (frequency and descriptive data) are also appended to this report. The fashion show featured a diverse collection of style and trend including ââ¬Å"designerâ⬠items for shoppers of all ages and genders. In line with this event, the Merryhall management was interested in ascertaining the fashion products that would appeal to its shoppers, thus distributed questionnaires which gauged the extent to which the fashion show had been of interest to the attendees of the show. In line with this event, the Merryhall management was interested in ascertaining the fashion products that would appeal to its shoppers, thus distributed ques tionnaires which gauged the extent to which the fashion show had been of interest to the attendees of the show. This report presents the results and analysis of the data obtained from the 120 completed and collected questionnaires. The statistical data of the results (frequency and descriptive data) are also appended to this report. Question 1: Shoppersââ¬â¢ Ratings to Different Aspects of the Fashion Show The shoppers were asked about their perception towards five specific aspects of fashion show: (a) quality of the clothes shown; (b) variety of the clothes; (c) staging of the show; (d) modeling of the clothes; and (e) ease of viewing the show. In order to gauge the perception of the 120 respondents, they were asked to gauge each aspect of the event using a four-point rating scale (very good, good, poor, and very poor). In terms of the quality of the clothes featured in the fashion show, 56, or 46.7%, out of the 120 respondents, which make it 46.7 %, said that the featured cloth es were ââ¬Å"very good.â⬠Thirty-five, 29.2%, respondents said the clothes were ââ¬Å"good.â⬠On the other hand, there were a total of 29 respondents, 24.2%, who provided a negative feedback on the clothes shown at the fashion event. Therefore, 75.8% of the shoppers who witnessed the event liked the quality of the featured clothes, and 24.2% of the shoppers said that the clothes shown at the fashion event had poor quality. In terms of variety, majority of the respondents (55.8% or 67 people) said that the variety of the clothes was ââ¬Å"good.â⬠Only 31 respondents, 25.8%, said that the variety of the clothes was ââ¬Å"very good.â⬠Significantly, there were only a small number of the respondents, 22 shoppers, who did not like the variety of the clothes shown at the event. This indicates that the shoppers, at least those who watched the fashion show, liked the selection of clothes that Merryhall presented although most of them were not so intensely enthusiast ic about it. When it comes to staging, again Merryhall received mostly positive feedbacks from the respondents. Forty-two or 35% of the respondents said that the staging was ââ¬Å"very good,â⬠and 63 or 52.5% said that it was ââ¬Å"good.â⬠Still, there were shoppers who did not feel happy about the staging of show but they were very few, 12.5% of the respondents in particular. The modeling of the clothes also received a positive feedback from the shoppers who saw the fashion event. A total of 69 respondents, 57.5%, said that the modeling was ââ¬Å"good,â⬠and only 12 respondents said it was ââ¬Å"very good.â⬠A considerable number of respondents commented on the poor modeling of the clothes during the fashion show. In total, there were 39 respondents who rated the modeling ââ¬Å"
Tracking Options Using Gps For Alzheimers Patients Coursework
Tracking Options Using Gps For Alzheimers Patients - Coursework Example A detailed analysis of the problem is given addressing certain of the ethical implications of monitoring, or choosing not to monitor. The presumption exists that as a dementia worsens some form of GPS monitoring will be utilized by family members, or the staff of an assisted living facility. A physiological description is given briefly describing the biochemical markers of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s disease, as well as the symptomatic criteria used in a positive diagnosis of dementia as a result of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s disease. Warning signs and the prognosis of the condition are given. While no organic treatment exists, the advantages of GPS monitoring are discussed, including the implications and questions that must be addressed prior to choosing an option. Advantages and disadvantages of tracking strategies are discussed in addition to three information systems which are compared in accordance with a list of five practical criteria. Finally, recommendations are provided in the interest of dignity for the Alzheimerââ¬â¢s patient, but with respect towards the needs of family members and the likely inevitability of assisted care. An option of a monitoring service utilizing the expertise of a professional Corporation is concluded to be the most valuable and practical option for the protection and dignity of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s sufferers.... With longer lifespans common, and aging of the population is inevitable. As a greater proportion of that population grows elderly, pathologies associated with aging will become of paramount importance. Some theorists may reason without sympathy for the humanity of those suffering from elderly dementia, or other forms of neurological illness similar to Alzheimer's disease. There may be some question as to whether the afflicted truly have dignity in the first place. There may be some that like an Alzheimer's patients to some form of devolved animal, lacking a human consciousness and the ability to plan for the future. Under this context both safety and convenience of care must be Paramount. Towards this end various forms of restraints, and/or monitoring technologies may be devised as a way to control the movements of elderly patients. In the twilight of human existence, those suffering from neurological diseases may seem to be struggling through a fog confusing memory with present real ity. For a fleeting moment, it might make sense to seek out people and places long past, to resume old routines and see familiar faces without the cognizance of what lives on only in the past. An elderly person trying to return to a familiar setting that may not have existed for decades could easily wander away from caregivers and placed themselves in peril. Time and money must be spent tracking their movements and gently returning them to locations that seem wildly at odds with the fragmentary grip on reality that motivates the mentally diseased elderly. Estimates indicate that 60% of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s patients will become lost wandering away from their homes or places of care at some point during the progression of their
